About

Matthew DeenMatt Deen

“My mission is to build long-term relationships with my clients and colleagues to improve the lives of others by providing high-quality, tailored legal services in an ultra-responsive, sophisticated, yet practical manner.”

Deen Law is committed to building sustaining, long-term relationships with clients. This isn’t just lip service. This is my core commitment to all clients of all shapes and sizes. Timely responses, quick turnaround times and the use of technology ensure that you receive unparalleled client service at all times. I will simplify a complex legal landscape for you, your business and your family. You shouldn’t lose sleep over your legal matters; that’s my job.

This is not your father’s law firm. I rarely wear a tie and I’ll never send you a bill that I wouldn’t send my mom. Since you’re in control of everything we do and how we do it, there won’t be any surprises. I will spot issues, make recommendations and provide you with different fee arrangement options to address those issues. You choose what services are performed, on what timeline and on what fee arrangement. We’ll be in constant contact so you always know where you stand.

While I regularly use technology to deliver legal services to my clients, I seek to accomplish my mission by putting down the smart phone and actually listening to my clients. Whether it’s a legal or business issue, I’m happy to be a resource for you. I am as quick to offer business advice as I am legal advice. I enjoy connecting my clients to each other, to investors, to other professionals and resources to help improve their situation. While we are all busy and email is so much easier than meeting in person, I really enjoy getting together in person whether at my office, your office/house (yes, I do “house calls”) or at a local coffee shop or brew pub. I enjoy getting to know my clients both professionally and personally which enables me to accomplish my mission by helping to improve your life, even by some small measure.

Education

I earned my law degree from California Western School of Law where I earned an Academic Merit Scholarship for my academic performance. In addition, while in law school, I appeared on the Dean’s List and earned Academic Achievement Awards in my Contracts I and Property II classes for receiving the highest grades in each class. As an undergraduate, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa where I majored in Marketing and appeared on the Dean’s List multiple times.

Involvement

I am currently the Chair of the San Diego County Bar Association’s Business and Corporate Law Section where I lead an organization of over 1,200 members. In addition, I am a member of the Bench-Bar Committee and a longtime member of the San Diego County Bar Association’s Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section. I also volunteer for the local chapter of Wills for Heroes, an organization that provides simple estate plans to police officers, fireman and first responders. I want to help improve and promote San Diego County’s economy and growth which is why I support and am involved with the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation which promotes San Diego’s economy by helping to attract and retain businesses within the San Diego region. In addition to the above professional affiliations, I currently volunteer at Outdoor Outreach, a local non-profit organization dedicated to introducing disadvantaged youth from San Diego to the outdoors. Giving back to my community is something that has been important to me since an early age.

Personal

I am originally from the western suburbs of Chicago, Illinois. Following college, I relocated to San Diego for law school and stayed for the better weather and increased outdoor recreational opportunities as I am in love with all things outdoors whether it is camping, hiking, fishing, kayaking, or mountaineering. In addition to the above, I enjoy getting out on the golf course and playing basketball. My wife Melissa and I just welcomed our first child into the world after selling our fixer upper in South Park and relocating to Del Cerro.
